Google Releases Version 2 of its Web Fonts

Google has been making certain fonts available for use on the web for some time now via its Web Fonts site, and now it has released version 2 which brings some major changes.

You have 180 (yes 180!) font families to choose from with filters, search, text samples (words, sentences or paragraphs) and the ability to create your own collection of fonts.

If you are not currently using Web Fonts to build sites, jump on it because now its ready for primetime. You may still prefer TypeKit, which is an excellent resource, but you will have a hard time beating this for the price tag.

Otixo Brings All Your Cloud Services Into One Place

I have been trying to pick and choose which cloud services to use so that I can keep track of them all effectively. Dropbox, SkyDrive, Box.net, Google Docs, MobileMe for some, etc are all options and there are plenty more where that came from.

At some point, you will typically choose one and move on or use them all, some more effectively than others. This is the problem that a new product, Otixo, is attempting to solve. The company basically gives you an interface for managing all of your cloud services in one location.

You can search across your cloud services, moves files amongst them without downloading, access them with a single sign on and even access them on your mobile device. You can also mount you Otixo account as a network drive and search and manage files on Otixo from your desktop. I can confirm that this works well for Windows 7. I followed the supplied setup guide and got up and running in under a minute. This will be interesting to track and see how this works over time as I add more services to Otixo.

This service sounds extremely promising and has just moved into public beta. The interface seems simple enough as you can see here:

The only drawback I see thus far is a limited range of services offered, making this product slightly less attractive at the moment, but this is a public beta at this point. People often read beta and think Gmail. Well, typically beta means beta. Beta means new features will be added constantly. What do I want to see? Support for Microsoft SkyDrive, Evernote, Photo sharing websites (Picasa, Flickr, etc for easy uploading downloading and sharing, etc.) and more as new services emerge…how about Google Music even.

Needless to say, I am intrigued and plan to continue to track this early stage service and would already recommend it to those who are interested in the ubiquitous and ominous cloud.
